The incident occurred in Albany at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 28, on I-87.
According to New York State Police Trooper Stephanie O'Neil, troopers attempted to stop Nashaan A. Howard, age 40, of Schenectady, in Albany County in Bethlehem.
When Howard failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated. O'Neil said Howard was driving recklessly at a high rate of speed and discarding items from the vehicle during the pursuit.
Despite Howard's attempts to evade the stop, troopers successfully deployed a tire deflation device, disabling his vehicle on I-87 in Albany. He was then taken into custody without incident, O'Neil said.
O'Neil said during an investigation, troopers recovered more than two kilograms of packaged cocaine Howard had allegedly thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit.
Howard was charged with:
- Criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Reckless endangerment
- Tampering with physical evidence
- Unlawful fleeing of a police officer
- Numerous vehicle and traffic law violations
He was remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
